Sunshine State Decorative Artists Teacher's Letter

Hello everyone,

This letter is for anyone wishing to teach at the 2009 retreat to be held March 19 to 22, 2009 at Dayspring Conference Center, Parrish, FL. If you know a friend, chapter member or anyone that may be interested in teaching, please make a copy of this packet to share with them.

My name is Michelle Shroyer and I’m the teachers’ coordinator for the 2009 State Retreat. If you need anything I am here to help you so please keep the following information handy. Instructions for submitting projects to teach at the 2009 retreat are as follows. Please read them carefully.  If you have any questions please contact me.

The deadline for Teachers Submissions is July 05, 2008.   Submissions postmarked after this date will be disqualified.

PLEASE PRINT when completing all of the enclosed forms.

A. Teacher Registration form for Day Spring Conference Center

1.   If your project is selected for teaching, you must register for the retreat and make a down payment. All teachers and attendees will be required to pay the registration fee whether staying or not.

2.   You must be a member of SDP.

3.   You must be a member of Sunshine State Decorative Artists. If you are not sure if your dues are up to date please contact Julie Danke. Dues are $ 10.00 per year 2008-$ 10.00, 2009-$ 10.00. This means $20.00 in dues must be paid before the 2009 retreat. (This is required of all attendees, not just teachers.)

B. Teacher's information - PLEASE PRINT

1.    Fill out completely; we need only one copy of this form.

2.    The bottom is for office use.

C.  Project sheet - PLEASE PRINT

1.     Teachers may submit 3 projects.

2.     These projects may be your own designs. They can be published or ones you have taught before.

3.     You may teach another artist’s design, if you have a written permission letter, for each project from the artist. These should be attached to each project when submitted. If there is not a permission letter from the artist, this will disqualify the project from being taught.

4.     Each project submitted must have one copy of the project sheet, a photo, and a copy of your permission letter, if applicable.

D. Completing the project sheet - PLEASE PRINT 1     Skill level

a.   Beginner:

Taught at a slow pace with some teacher assistance. For students with SOME painting experience who need a little direction.

b.  Intermediate:

Taught at a medium pace with moderate teacher assistance. For students with GOOD painting experience.

c.   Advance:

Taught at a brisk pace with minimum teacher assistance. For students with GOOD KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY to paint without personal direction.

3.    Amount of time for each class. The average student should be able to complete the project in time allotted. (Note: we can schedule more 3 and 4-hour classes.)

4.    Teaching fees are:

3-hour class $12.00

4-hour class $16.00 6-hour class $24.00 8-hour class $32.00

5.    Project Fees. Please round off to nearest dollar. This is the amount you will charge the student for the things you supply. When figuring your fee keep in mind the following suggestions:

      a.     Surface and time that it has taken to prep and apply the pattern (one for each student).

b.    Paint and mediums

c.    Pattern including line drawing, instructions, supply list and photograph (one for each student)

d.    Demonstration board,

e.    Any supplies student would have a hard time finding that you may need to supply.

6.    List of supplies students need to bring. Be sure to list sizes and types of brushes

  7.    Minimum and maximum number of students you will be willing to teach.

  8.    The bottom is for office use.

E.  Photo Identification Sheet -PLEASE PRINT

1.   Fill out this form completely and cut it out.

2.   Tape it to the back of the appropriate photo submission.

Please do not send the samples of your project. Original samples sent or mailed will be disqualified. To reiterate. Photos only will be accepted, with a postmark of no later than July 05, 2008. The photos are very important, as they are what the selection committee will use to choose the projects. These photos are what will publish in the retreat booklet and what the students will use to choose classes. Make be sure your photo is clear. Fill up as much of the photo as you can with your project. The background should be plain and not distracting. Medium gray is a good background. Please note: your name should not be on your sample.   If it is, please place a piece of tape over your name before it is photographed. Do not have anything in your photo that is not what the student will receive, i.e. such as a frame. Photos will not be returned.
